Simple Ways To Catch More Trout

As the spring begins many fishermen throughout the United States begin to turn their collective attention towards the act of trout fishing and in this article I will outline a few simple ways that virtually anyone can employ to catch more trout. These simple methods have been proven to be effective and are based on more than fifty years of combined trout fishing experience. If any of them aren't a part of your trout fishing arsenal, they should be added sooner rather than later.

Probably the single biggest mistake that trout fishermen make is using gear and line that are too heavy, so the first simple way to catch more trout is to not make this mistake. You see, trout can be finicky by nature, are generally found in cold, clear water and have very keen eyesight which means that they can easily detect fishing line under the water if it's too heavy (which will cause them not to bite your offering). For these reasons an ultra light action rod and reel should always be used when fishing for trout. And your reel should be spooled with two, four, or at the heaviest six pound test line. Just using the correct size gear and line is probably the most simple way to catch more trout.
Next, you need to familiarize yourself with a spin fishing technique known as "drift fishing". This simple, yet highly effective trout fishing technique is used in small rivers and streams and is as effective a technique as there is when it comes to fishing for trout. Drift fishing has been my technique of choice when fishing for trout for more than twenty years, mainly because it is so effective.

When it comes to simple ways to catch more trout, using the correct trout bait for the situation that you are in is of the utmost importance. In other words, you need to know what bait is most likely to enable you to catch more trout given the type of water you are fishing and the situation that you are in.

Are you fishing for trout in a lake that has been recently "stocked"? Then Powerbait would be a great trout bait choice. How about a river that allows live bait fishing? Then drift fishing with a live worm would be a great way to go. What about if you are fishing in a body of water that allows only artificial lures? Then small spinners or even and artificial fly fished with a "fly fishing bubble" would both be good trout bait choices.

These simple ways to catch more trout will help virtually anyone experience more trout fishing success. They all work well for me and I know they will help you to experience more success as well.
