The Moon Set & a Successful Day of Trout Fishing

I arrived at one of my favorite fishing spots at about 12:30 in the afternoon, which was about an hour before the moon was going to be setting.  It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, with temperatures in the fifties.  Although the weather was more than comfortable for a little trout fishing, it was by no means in "my favor" seeing as how a high pressure system had settled into the area big time.  You see, high pressure systems are great for human beings comfort levels, but they are nothing special to the trout that live in the waters that I like to fish.

This of course doesn't mean that trout can't be caught when the weather is nice, because nothing could be farther from the truth, it's just that when the weather is nice, conditions aren't as optimal as they could be when it comes to catching trout.  In any case, I had checked the moon rise and set times for the day the morning of the trip and found out that the moon set was taking place at 1:25 in the afternoon, so I planned my trout fishing trip accordingly.

I made my first cast at around noon and fished for an hour or so without as much as a nibble.  Hey, what did I have to complain about though, because I was fishing right?  Miraculously, at around one or one fifteen, I got my first bite, set the hook and landed a beautiful fifteen inch rainbow trout.   "Not bad", I thought as I baited my gang hooks for another cast.  A trout is always better than no trout, no matter how you slice it. 

Then, seemingly "out of the blue" I began to receive bites on virtually every cast.  I hooked and landed six more rainbows that were all in the fourteen to sixteen inch range.  They were beautiful, wide trout that resembled little rainbow colored footballs, which made for a spectacular day of fall trout fishing.  As I was walking back up the river to make the 30 minute drive home, I pulled my phone out to check the time.  It was 2:00 and it suddenly hit me.  I was fishing as the moon was setting.  Was this the reason that the trout suddenly became active and started biting?  I tend to believe that the moon rise and set both play a role in fishes activity level, some people think that I'm nuts, but I've seen scenarios like this all too often and have become convinced that things like the moon rise and set play a huge role in whether or not I catch trout. 

It's also possible however, that The trout God's simply smiled upon me and provided me with a nice couple hours of catching trout.  Either way, it worked out for me, so I'm good.
