Trout Fishing Just Before A Cold Front

When I stepped out of the car and began to gear up for my quick fishing trip, I couldn't help but
notice that it sure wasn't all that warm outside.  This shouldn't have surprised me because when I went on my morning run the temperatures were in the freaking low thirties!  But hey, it was after 1:00 in the afternoon and although it was cloudy, the temperatures had warmed up to the mid fifties, so everything would be fine, right?

Well everything was fine except for the fact that a cold front had just passed or should I say was passing through the area that I was going to fish and I figured that the trout might be a bit skittish.  Although it wasn't all that cold, let me tell you something, there was a cold wind blowing, that cut right through you.   This was definately a day that I was glad I had my wristies on to help to keep my hands somewhat warm, although I made a big mistake by not bringing a beanie along for my head.

Well, all in all I only lasted about an hour and a half before I called it a day and in that time was only able to hook and land one rainbow trout that was a whopping 11 inches long.   Truth be told, that was the only bite that I received on this day, and I was glad to get it.  I guess it just goes to show you that trout fishing just before or as a cold front is passing through the area that you are trout fishing, can be an exercise in humilty.

But you know what?  Although it wasn't the greatest day of fall trout fishing that I have ever experienced, it was damn sure better than working for the man or woman or whomever it is that you might have the pleasure of exchanging time for money.  Yep, it's true what they say, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day working no matter how you slice it.
